
Vernon has earned his MSW from UCLA with a concentration in administration, health, and geriatrics; and complemented that with a clinical state license. He also obtained a post-baccalaureate certificate in Health Care Administration from California State University Long Beach under the Latino Healthcare Professionals Project scholarship program for first generation bicultural/bilingual college students.
He functions as a behavioral health therapist for a healthcare entity based in Eastern California and has on online psychotherapy practice implementing interventions through cognitive behavioral therapy, brief solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing, trauma-based/informed care, and narrative therapy.
Vernon has authored pieces for industry publications including Nephrology News & Issues, National Kidney Foundation RenaLink, and Renal Support Network KidneyTalk magazine.

Vernon is celebrating 25 years in nephrology social work-as a direct care practitioner, a clinical supervisor for pre-licensed nephrology social workers, and as a consultant for new dialysis facilities undergoing initial Medicare certification.
He is recognized as a leader in the kidney community who conducts trainings at professional conferences for social workers new to dialysis ensuring practice methods aligned with survey readiness, and for seasoned social workers to implement effective clinical best practices. He has also served in Patient Services for both ESRD Networks 17 and 18.
